Wordless Wednesday: Domestic Goddess I Am Not

Ironing is not my strong point, as I noticed coming into Sadie's room after a nap. There are even more perfect iron marks on the other one, too.

Moving and Memories

I may dislike the whole nitty gritty process of moving, but I do love to go through things I haven't gone through in awhile. There are memories in the most mundane of places. The bathroom cabinet, for example. While cleaning that out, I found a bottle of 100% acetone and I immediately started laughing out loud because I remember having to run out to a store to find something that would dissolve super glue....... because John had super glued his fingers together. (He blames me for this, but that is a whole other blog post.) Anyhoo.... he was so not happy about this and since it's in my nature to laugh in inappropriate situations, tears were literally coming down my face as I tried to free his fingers, because I was laughing so hard. So, the acetone made the cut to the next apartment. You never know when you might need it. :)

And letters. I have boxes upon boxes of letters. I save every one of them, and have, since high school. I love these boxes the most. Every time I move, I go through a few and just open up some random letters and am always so glad I saved them. Like having letters from my Dad, something concrete like that to remember him by, is absolutely priceless. And especially pre-email, when people actually sent someone a letter to say hello and I miss you, those are really special to me. A different era, really. Seriously though, isn't it? I can't remember the last time I got a letter in the mail. I always mean to start doing it again, because there is a simple joy in reading something from someone that is hand written.

The one. The only. The Bitch boots. Accept no substitutes.

I love to de-clutter and throw things away, but some things I refuse to get rid of. My college "bitch boots" is one of them. Sorry, but that's what we called them! I used to wear them out on the town regularly, but if I wore them out now, I think they may be labeled as "skanky"! So, I wear them with Halloween outfits now. I still love them and indeed still do feel empowered when I wear them!

Here's an oldie but a goodie: I found the t-shirt my sister and I made with puffy paint (yes, it WAS popular to wear that stuff in the 80's!) and what pray tell did that t-shirt say??! New Kids On The Block of course!! The funniest part about that t-shirt was how after concentrating so hard to write out "New Kids" neatly, we discovered that the "N" was drawn on backwards! HA!! That one is a forever keeper! I wish I hadn't already packed it or I would have taken a pic, it's pretty funny. :)

What high school hippie Shannon wore. With her Birkenstocks, of course.

And does anyone remember these? I was all into the hippie/bohemian thing in high school and it was popular to wear the handmade pants with the fabric sew into the seam in the side of the legs. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?? Bueller?? Say I'm not the only one. Anyways, my Mom and I made these pants together (ok, more my Mom than me) and I loved them back then! These took way too much effort to ever throw away!

Ok, turning off Memory Lane and returning to the present time now. :)

Moving Madness

It looks like a tornado hit our apartment. This is the hard part about moving. How could we have possibly acquired so many things in 3 years?! Oh ya, we had a baby. Which begs another question, how could someone so small have so many things?! We're lucky we could swing a two week move-in period, because honestly, I don't know if we could do this in one day. I did it before- when I was single and childless - and it was an awful experience I swore I'd never do again. I can't imagine doing it now. So each time we move, we get a place we can move into early and slowly, taking our time so it's not overwhelming. It pretty much has taken over our life right now anyways. A few car trips a day, some help from some wonderful friends, and folks, in about a week, we'll be moved into our new place! I'm really excited and also kind of sad to be leaving our little home. I do love this little place. Lot of memories happened here. And I love our neighborhood and the area. And our neighbors. Even the sketchy guys across the street who love to play guitar and drink on their porch till 3 am. They're actually pretty nice and they're nice to my kid. Sadie especially likes Squid. Yep, that's what they call him. But..... I'm pretty psyched to be moving somewhere new, have a new place to explore, a different type of environment to live in. Really looking forward to our summer there. I'm a firm believer that change is a good thing.

When we're not packing and cursing about moving, we're enjoying this gorgeous spring weather. Usually I never catch the cute moments between Sadie and friends because my camera is never handy. However, I did happen to catch this one! Sadie and Lukas walking and holding hands at the park. Awwww!! I can't tell you how cute this was in person. And it wasn't even prompted by Mom! The innocence and sweetness of children is so special and wonderful. I love our playgroup/mommy/kid time we have each week. Frankly, I don't know what I'd do without it!

I really shouldn't be blogging. Seriously. I need to get offline and pack.
